September 14, 2008. stella's first Major League baseball game and stella's first, last and only trip to "the house that ruth built". after this season, the yankees will tear down the 85 year-old structure and move next door to their "new and improved" yankee stadium.

we arrived in the 2nd inning, and i was open to the fact that we may not stay more than an inning or two. but to my delight, stella was very good. we stayed for the whole game. she sat next to me sharing cracker jacks and a hot dog. i had 3 beers and she had some ice cream --- which she now equates to baseball. if you say "baseball", she'll say "ice cream!"
we had so much fun. i really look forward to continuing her sports education via trips to the ballpark.

as for the game itself, the yankees were on the brink of missing the playoffs for the first time in 12 years, playing division leader tampa bay. ironically, they won 8-4, but ultimately it was not enough for them to make the post season. bummer. however, in the fifth inning, we did get to see derek jeter tie lou gehrig's record for most career hits inside yankee stadium (1,269)... and he did it with a homerun. it was awesome. the energy inside the stadium was electric.
